The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
